Skin needling cost and how many sessions

Two clinics' published prices, a dermatology reference on session counts, and the point where the two disagree.

Checked

A Perth clinic lists a 60-minute full-face skin needling session at $249, and a Sydney clinic lists needling with an added infusion at $499. DermNet says 3 to 4 treatments may be needed for moderate acne scars, with at least 6 weeks between treatments.

What does a session cost?

Two published lists, four prices. The gap between them is mostly what is bundled into the appointment rather than the needling itself.

Published skin needling prices Perth prices are for 60 minutes. The Sydney price includes an infusion add-on.

How many sessions will I need?

DermNet says 3 to 4 treatments may be needed for moderate acne scars. The Perth clinic recommends 3 to 6 sessions, 4 to 6 weeks apart. Laser Sydney sells its infused treatment as a course of four monthly sessions. Three sources, three slightly different plans, which is normal for a treatment where results depend on your skin.

How far apart should sessions be?

This is where the sources part company. DermNet recommends at least 6 weeks between two treatments, because that is how long new collagen takes to form. The Perth clinic books 3 to 6 sessions, 4 to 6 weeks apart, and a monthly course is tighter still. If a clinic offers you a second session inside six weeks, ask what it is basing that on.

At least 6 weeks, DermNet Session 1 Week 4 Week 6 Clinic schedule: 4 to 6 weeks
DermNet's reason for the longer gap is that new collagen takes about six weeks to form. A schedule that starts at four weeks books the next session before that.

What does a course cost?

  • Three full-face sessions at the Perth price: $747.
  • Four full-face sessions at the Perth price: $996.
  • Four infused sessions at the Sydney price: $1,996.

What does the price include?

Compare the appointment, not the sticker. The Perth price of $249 buys 60 minutes on the full face. The Sydney price of $499 includes an infusion add-on and is sold as four monthly treatments. Extending the same session to the neck and décolletage takes the Perth price to $299. Ask what is included, how long the appointment runs, and what the price becomes once any introductory rate ends.

How does it compare with a peel?

At the same Sydney clinic, a 45-minute glycolic peel is $99, against $499 for the infused needling session. They treat different things, and we have found no sourced comparison of their results, so read that gap as a difference in what the appointment involves rather than in how well either works.

Is the first-visit price the real price?

It is the price of one visit. The Perth clinic lists a first-time session at $169 and its standard full face at $249. Cost the course at the standard price, or use the calculator, and treat the introductory rate as a discount on the first appointment only.
